BEGUSARAI: The increasing number of crimes including murder, in Samho block, situated in the diara area of Begusarai district, is being attributed mainly to lack of proper policing.
The block comprises three panchayats, with a population of nearly 30,000. The geographical location of the block which falls across the river Ganga, at a distance of some 60 km from Begusarai via Lakhisarai district, facilitates the move of criminals.
Samho, being close to Lakhisarai district, is a safe haven for inter-district criminals.
The area is thoroughly underdeveloped and lacks all civic amenities like roads, electricity, hospitals and educational institutions. No official or police personnel is therefore keen to get a posting there.
The block has no proper police station and since the last one decade it is being run at a rented small house.
Posting of an officer-in-charge (OC) in this block is viewed as punishment. This is another reason that no competent official is posted here, rued Mishrilal, a member of the district board and resident of Gamho. According to him, the police station is manned by a few constables and chowkidars who instead of controlling crime, are more worried about their personal security.
According to reports, the police are yet to get any clue or make any arrest of accused involved in the murder of Ram Kumar Chaudhary alias Kunwarji, Ram Parikshit Roy, Shaleshwar Roy, all of Tola Akbarpur, committed on separate dates during the last one month.
According to reports, the police also failed to arrest any member of the gang involved in the abduction of two high-school teachers there, released after five days, reportedly on the commitment by the teachers to pay ransom within a week.
According to informed sources, Krishnadeo Singh, a grain dealer and resident of Samho and his munshi were was killed on January 9 at Surya Garha market under Lakhisarai district, has allegedly been murdered.
"Incidents of loot from pedestrians at Samho and Suryagarha, is now a day to day affair", said CPI activist and resident of the area Ashok Singh.
According to CPI activist, police there do not register crime of petty nature like loot, theft of cattle, damage of crops and even assault cases on the pretext that the OC is not available".
He says that the Matihani BDO, who is incharge of Samho block, seldom visits. Similarly, the OC posted there goes only for a once or twice a week to sign some important papers and mostly stays in Begusarai.
"Bhagwan bharose samho chal raha hai," (Samho is running by the grace of god) said the Samho block pramukh.
